Isabelle’s Trunk…

Hi everyone! I don’t have a lot of photos for this post because I need to hurry and start gathering wood to build an ark! We have had over 4 inches of rain here and it is not stopping. Our creek is only 30 feet from the house so we keep going out to check, and it is as full as I have ever seen it. I hope you are all safe and dry:-)

I wanted to show you a peek of the the trunk I brought over from my parent’s house.

It is still wearing the green color my grandmother painted it so many years ago. I’m not sure if I will paint it or not. I had planned on maybe black, then I thought grey, but when I got it here, I kind of liked knowing it is a truly, vintage color.

I just placed my dad’s 1956 Royal typewriter on top for now, but it seems to be a popular spot for it…

It is amazing how excited the children get about a typewriter. Knowing they can type something and instantly see it right in front of them. Imagine that. It makes me think we are really not progressing at all.

I’m excited to finally have my trunk here! Now I just need to figure out whether to paint it and what color…

Thanks so much for stopping by!! Please come by my facebook page if you have not been because we are having a great time chatting over there.

What a handsome green trunk! I've never seen one with all those straps and buckles. I love the green, especially with the pink typewriter on it, but if you do get inspired to paint it something else I bet we'll love it too. That is a darling picture of your son typing!

The typewriter caught my eye. Oh, wouldn't that look sweet at my house. Been looking for one of that era. I've still got my eyes peeled. Your trunk is amazing. I'm glad you've left it green for now. It sure is nice with the typewriter!

Beautiful, and the typewriter is fabulous on it, especially with the two colors. My 'ancient' Royal is in the attic; a high school graduation present!

After reading your post I think this is the perfect colour for your home unless you paint it a pale aqua like your dining room wall. However, since your grandmother painted it many years ago, the colour would really be a vintage one. I hope the rain stops soon and that the creek won't get too high. Stay safe Anita. Blessings, Pamela

Lovely vignette Anita. Can't believe you have had so much rain. Just checked the radar and that storm is huge! It was suppose to rain here today, but the storm missed us. Hoping that the rest of the storm misses you.

That is an AMAZING piece!! I love the color! How does it flow with the rest of the room? Jemma always goes straight to the typewriter at my MIL's house! So funny! I bet our two little ones would have a good time together!

I wouldn't change a thing, especially since Grandmother painted it. Not only is the color lovely, it holds the memory of her & her hard work! The typewriter only enhances the color & shares in it's sentimental value!

I'm in envy aww right now!! I think you must be one of luckiest people to have all these family vintage pieces!!!! My mom never passed down anything to us, I being the youngest of 7, have very very few pictures of me. I met my dad @ his side of the family when I was sixteen & my grandmother had made 3 hand embroidered quills, one for eash of us 3 girls. I am the only one that still has mine! I treasure things that have been given to me & the things that I have found because I know that there is a story of someone's life behind it.
Back to the trunk!!! Truly in AWW!! I've been wanting & looking for one of these for the last 10 years. Maybe I'll find the trunk with all the lilac china inside it one of these days!!
Enjoy your grandmothers treasure, you are so blessed!! 😉

That is such a nice BIG trunk! I love it, and I like how the color your mother painted it plays well with the old typewriter. Very cute vignette! Hope you start to dry up soon!

Great trunk. I vote for not painting it – it looks fab! And that Typewriter! It's like the strawberry milkshake of vintage goodies.

Any idea what the original color of the trunk was before she painted it? I like the green, I being the sentamentalist I have become, I don't think I could repaint it, but if one did, it would have to stay a vintage color, I would do an antique white. It's so beautiful!!!

Anita, I love it just as it is!! How cute that the kids are mesmerized by a typewriter!! LOL!! I just think of all the term papers I had to type on those things. Yours is such a cute color! What great treasures you have!

Oh, I love the truck just like it is and the typewriter color is perfect with it.
How cute that the kids are enjoying the "antique" that your Dad enjoyed.
I hear from our NC neighbors that you are getting lots of snow. She said that the creek that runs by our house is rushing.

I love the color of your trunk as it is…how blessed you are. I'm sure you are enjoying seeing your children use the typewriter…and be intrigued.
By the way, love the new look of your blog. Seems I always had trouble maneuvering it before (slow) but not any more. 🙂

Funny … I have an old trunk with an old typewriter on it too, and kids are fascinated with the old typewriter … they always type letters to their Grandmas! But I got mine at an auction, they are not family pieces.

Hi Anita, I took my Grandmother's trunk to college with me in 1974 and of course I could not bear to see it beat up, so I painted it with black high gloss paint. Sigh. Oh well, I loved it at the time! You are right about the typewriters. Kids are fascinated by them! Linda

hi Anita, love this find and the pink typewriter. My father was very proficient typing as that was part of his Naval duties upon a carrier in Korean War. I am so partial to green, and that vintage green is lovely. I have hand made doll furniture handed down from my namesake's brother, over 100 yrs old, my grandmother repainted similar green before I was born!your little 'sheriff" is growing up, bless. PS, I remember the post where he dressed as sheriff!

Hi Anita! Your blog is beautiful and I adore the title! Battling a virus and my head is foggy but I think I met you last week at Growing My Blog?! I just remember the name of your blog and placing value on things more important than "things". What a wonderful tribute to your family, I like that so much. Your Grandma Isabelle's trunk..I vote the color stays! unless there's a lead issue. It is a lovely color and means so much. Your pink typewriter!!Seriously cute and has inspired me to pull out a very old sewing machine. I am your newest follower and hope you get a chance to visit me..I have a give away! Huggs, Dianna

This is an amazing trunk! It looks so deep! Gorgeous! Personally, I love the color! I don't know what the rest of your room looks like, but it sure looks like a pretty color and goes really nicely with the pink tyepwriter! It may be one of those "live with it for a while" things until you decide exactly what you want to do with it. I reallyh appreciate the family ties it has – those items are always the most precious to me. Hugs, Leena
