My best thrift shop find ever…

For more than a year we have not had a couch. After selling the leather one I had, I brought over an antique love seat and chaise lounge from my mother’s with really no plan for anything else. Until I saw this.

It was love at first sight when I walked into Haywood Christian Ministries thrift store last Thursday. Everything was half off that day, so it would have been around $38, but I went home without it. I know what you’re thinking. I just don’t normally *fall* for French Provincial designs, but I could not stop thinking about it.

My mom even went the next day and almost got it but it was too long for her space.

But smitten I was, and I finally couldn’t stand it anymore so we went by Saturday to see if it was still there…and it was — but, they told me someone had looked at it and wanted to *re-do* it. “No, no,” I said, standing my ground to protect it from a most likely chevron upholstered re-do. Ready to whip out my $37 dollars as ransom, they told me it was not half off. What? A whole $75 for this? Ok, I know, I know $75 is still an incredible bargain, but I did, however, still get another $25 off because they wanted it out of the store. So after $50 and a happy dance, we went to borrow my dad’s truck and bring this beauty home.

Home where it belongs:-)

A white couch. I had a white couch for about 10 years—it’s the one and only main reason I got brown leather in the first place. So I know what it’s like, but I couldn’t resist.

Of course I couldn’t resist!!

I love it, I just love it, and the price and incredible condition make me love it even more.

Things had to shift around a little a lot in this small space to accommodate it…

But I think it is right at home with my other antique pieces…

And we are certainly happy to have a couch again…

…so we can all sit around together and watch “I Love Lucy” and “Andy Griffith” on Sunday afternoons. Because I look forward to that all week:-)

Bargain of the century! And it looks lovely in your place Anita. We have a 7' long sofa at the cabin and it is falling to pieces but the children refuse to replace it because it's so long and comfy. I guess we'll just have to recover it. 🙂

Hi Susan, it's in an armoire in the only corner I didn't show on the other side of the pink chair. I think I showed it in the living room post this summer. Funny, But I had a photo of it I was planning to include but the sun flared so I didn't:-)

What a BARGAIN!!! I love it too. I will always have a white or cream sofa, I love that I can change the whole feel of the room, just by changing the pillows! Your pillows are beautiful and I am guessing you made them all. It's a beauty!!!!

Anita, I thought it was fabulous when you first posted the picture. It would be too long for my space, too, but I might have fought you for it if there. Even though I have 3 big dogs who are hubs' "grandchildren" and treated accordingly. But it looks like your home was made for it, or it for your home?

That is a very pretty sofa find! I don't like it when I see people redo antique sofas in big chevron patterns or any other trendy fabric print. That sofa would look pretty in a solid linen too.

Anita- That is a real beauty. You might consider buying a couple cans of Scotchguard and just soaking the thing with it. That is what I did with my white sofa and 15 years later it still looks like new….just a thought. It fits your home beautifully! xo Diana ps. It is a beauty! I am always in awe of how you are piece by piece taking this room to your vision. Waiting usually does bring about the happiest results. I always tell young people not to go out and buy a room full of furniture when they get their first apartment or house because their tastes will change. Most of the time they don't believe me!
