Getting ready for winter…

I love everything about autumn — cool days, clear blue skies and the amazing colors nature offers. I also love getting the house ready for the coming winter. That means bringing out the down comforters, flannel sheets and cozy throws. I started in the master bedroom and added some bold color to the mix this year.

I have used all white bed linens since the 1990s but decided to warm things up with reds and blues. I started with a blue plaid flannel duvet cover I bought several years ago. The down comforters are so warm, I think it could be 5 degrees and these would still keep us warm. All the beds have them in the house.

I added some red pillow covers I made several years ago for the living room and am really loving the punch of color.

I am still so in love with this antique iron bed that I found on the property and restored last year, but I digress:-)

I wanted to use my great grandmother’s quilt, and love it on grandmother’s trunk.

You can see here how the new mantel adds to the room. We all love the extra texture and dimension it adds.

The room really makes me smile when I walk in, and I always look forward to a cozy, warm bed at the end of a long day:-)

It’s the little things…

Luv the bright pop of color of your great grandmother's quilt. Adding the cozy quilts make for a sweet retreat at the end of the day.

I could pick your entire bedroom up and put it in my home, I love it that much. I want to add some color to my bedroom to warm it up for winter, too, and you've inspired me!

Love all the warm and cozy elements of the room Anita! After this warm front passes by today, we're suppose to be in the 70's with cool nights. We'll be getting out the warm comforters very soon.

It's the amalgamation of the little things that makes an impact as resounding as this! You're smart to start with an all-white base and add in color from there. Everything looks cozy and warm and wonderful. The doors in your home are just spectacular! The deep color of the wood is so pretty. And that iron bed….wowza!!! What a keeper! I'm sure it's worth all the work you put into its restoration.

That mantel really does bring a special dimension to the overall look of the room. That's giving me lots of ideas!!! Uh oh…I will just blame it on you when Ramon asks why his Honey Do list just multiplied by 10!!! 🙂
