Springing into pink…

…well, I will be in a couple weeks:-) We are still two months away from green trees, but spring is definitely in the air here in the NC mountains.

I love changing things around for summer and lightening up the house a bit. I always look forward to throwing open the windows, at least for a few weeks before it gets humid, and enjoying the freshness of Spring. I wish I could say my house gets a spring cleaning, but I’ve never been able to get it all clean at once. I don’t know how people do that.

As for freshening up the inside decor, I’m looking forward to packing up the red pillows and the dark Turkish rugs for next winter and bringing back my pink.  Last year, a friend gave me this gorgeous vintage fabric that I could not decide where to use. There were two small curtain panels, so I think they will be going in the bedroom or the kitchen.

The fabric will more than likely be paired with this antique Turkish “Melis” vintage wool rug I found on ebay.

In the living room, I have this jute rug that just could not be more boring, so I’ll be adding a smaller overdyed rug on top. Currently, I have my Turkish rug layered on top, and that will get packed up for summer in exchange for…

…this hot pink rug! I’m so in love with this color, and was beside myself with happiness to find an affordable antique turkish rug in this shade.

I can’t wait until it arrives. I absolutely *love* overdyed rugs and think they can really add a modern touch to vintage decor and antiques. My husband, not so much. Crossing my fingers he doesn’t hate it!

The color is going to look so fabulous with the antique Chinese silk fabric I made runners, etc., out of last year. Without the blue walls, I feel like I have so much more freedom to change out accessories, and I’m really feeling this hot pink.

To spread the pink around a little, I’ll bring back out the pillows I made as well as the vintage pillow my grandmother made.

I am antsy about reupholstering this chair and have the fabric to do so, but the $250 price tag is just out of my budget at the moment. Funny thing is, I had it done in a beautiful creamy brocade before I decided to change to this color as a wedding gift to my husband in 2007. (It was originally a wedding gift from a relative to her husband in the 1940s.) This chenille did not wear well either, so I’m anxious to get it done — at some point.

Although, it does tie in nicely with the other pillows I’ll be bringing back out for spring. This was a remnant at my local fabric store, and I wish I could find more, but have not been able to.

Those are my plans for the next few weeks in the living space, and I can’t wait to get started.

Any change of season is always a great opportunity to change out a few accessories and feel like you have a whole new space. It really doesn’t take a lot of effort or money, either, and can really make a big impact.

How are you changing up things in your home this season?

I love how you change everything out each season. It gives me such inspiration! The pink is going to look so nice. And don't feel badly about not Spring cleaning. I have never been able to do it either. Although, I admire anyone who does.

I do too Arell! I want it, just don't have time to get it done. Plus, I'd rather be creating something, lol:-)

I love that you are leaning towards vibrant colors, Anita…the pinks show passion and zest, I like that! The first Turkish rug you showed is stunning…and I know you have a plan for the other. Lovely!

I feel the same about spring…I go in circles with cleaning…nothing ever gets done at the same time! đŸ™‚

I cannot wait to see how you will transform your home from winter to spring…with the peeks of what you have presented to us, it can be nothing but feeling like you are in a beautiful garden of spring color. Love that fabric that your friend gifted to you…

I love how you switch out your colors from season to season, the pops of pink really make me realize that spring is actually coming! I'm going to have to put my inspiration from you into gear and get into my grandmothers sewing room with her and actually learn how to make curtains, table runners, etc.!

Springtime is so fun isn't it! I bought some fabric the other day with bright watermelon pink to add an extra pop of color to the normal pale blue and lime green that I like to use this time of year.

Robin, that sounds awesome! I'm thinking of adding the lime green velvet pillows I got for my girls' room to the pink. We'll see!!
