Pastels on the porch for spring

Spring has certainly sprung in the North Carolina mountains, and I’m setting a pretty spring table out on the porch today!

I am also participating in the “Shades of Spring” blog hop with these ladies, so be sure to go by and visit them after leaving here for more spring inspiration.

We have had SO much rain, I was beside myself to get outside for a little bit of sunshine.

I have always loved pastels mixed together — especially in the spring, so that is exactly what I decided to use on my table — just like nature:-)

I started with a plain white table cloth, then used this rolled burlap for a runner. This is such a great way to cheat “making” a runner. I don’t think I’ll be making burlap runners anymore because this is so easy to unroll and already edged.

I layered Crate and Barrel woven placemats, that my aunt gave me, then set my table with different colors of pastel glassware, vintage china, inherited linens and silver.

These plates came as gifts with flour sacks when my grandfather ran his store here. They have no markings, but we have been told by an antique dealer they might be called “Cone Premium.”

They came in different colors with different flowers.

I only have one of these green edged plates, and I think it’s my favorite.

Vintage Wallace “Louvre” sterling flatware from 1896 really keeps this table vintage and continues the floral theme.

I gathered dogwood blooms, azalea blossoms, and assorted weeds for my centerpiece.

I used several different vintage glassware patterns, gifted from my mother, to mix and match. This Franciscan “Madeira” is a favorite. I used this pattern in green as well.

The Fostoria “Moonstone” goblets were a gift to my daughter from my mother, and are a beautifully soft shade of pink.

I also mixed in a Fostoria “Heritage” water glass in blue.

A vintage quilt and throw pillows soften the wood bench.

Mixing and matching — just as nature intended.

You can’t go wrong with that:-)

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to click on the links below and visit the other ladies for more spring inspiration!

I am not sure whether I love this table for its sheer beauty or the fact that it is filled with such family history. How special is it to have those gorgeous plates that were in flour sacks from your grandfather's store!…and then there is the incredible glasses from your mom….a table so beautifully put together with love from your family. I cannot imagine how beautiful it is up there now…you live in a very special place, not only for its environment, but for the history of your family. So great to be partying with you today Anita!!

Wow! This is so refreshing and pretty Anita. I love those pretty floral plates that came in the flour. It's so neat that they survived this long. Your whole table is gorgeous. Have a wonderful week. I hope you get some sunshine. 🙂 Pam

Oh my! I would love to sit at this charming spring table! The colors and combinations are delicate and show the softer side of the season. What a great idea to use already bound burlap as a table runner! Sigh!!!!

Everything said above! Gorgeous and filled with family history. I have ( I think ) a berry bowl from my Grandma. It has gold edging, pink and white with flowers. I love it dearly and looking at those beautiful plates, sigh! Your view of nature makes it all come together. Lovely! Kathleen in Az

Anita, I know I've probably asked before, but where in North Carolina are you? I'm in Greensboro, and the husband's family has a house in Spruce Pine! I love your outdoor table; I'm a big fan of mixing and matching. And I agree, if you find the colors together in nature, then they work together. And your pastels do, beautifully. I love your glassware, in particular, and those floral plates.

Hi Amy, we are west of Asheville, near Waynesville. I lived for a couple years near Graham, though, so I spent a little time in that area and never one time did I go to Replacements! Probably saved myself a lot of money!!

I love your Spring time table setting! That's a great tip to use the burlap roll for a table runner. I have seen those for sale at craft stores before. I love your floral plates too. The fact that they're all different colors makes them even more interesting.
