Colorful summer kitchen

Back in the spring, after I traded the red accents in the kitchen for hot pink, as happy as I was with the change, I knew I wanted to add a little more color.

After purchasing several vintage sarees to use in some other rooms, I knew I wanted to make a skirt for the sink out of this one then decided to get out the “Blue Willow” pattern dinnerware I had stashed away to bring in more of the indigo blue.

I also felt the pink rug, which was a little small, was just not working for me,  so I went on a quest to find the right one. I really wanted a runner and after searching, for what seemed like forever and trying out several in dark blue and gold, I found the perfect colorful rug at RugsUSA on sale for 75% off.

I. Love. This. Rug. No, really I do LOVE it. I wanted something affordable, with these colors and a little bit of Bohemian flair.

This definitely fit all the criteria I had — and then some. It’s so cheery and happy too:-)

I also added towels in hot pink — even though they were not easy to find. I picked this one up at World Market.

I have roses blooming and thought my grandmother’s little cow creamer would be perfect:-)

Locally made soap looks pretty in a vintage soap dish.

With the pink came more brass and gold. Let’s just say I have gone through a couple cans of Rustoleum Metallic Gold paint.

This little basket and bottle set was $7.99 at Burke’s Outlet, and I brightened it up with gold paint.

The vintage coffee server was .75 at the Salvation Army Thrift Store, so I snapped it up. They are much more than that on ebay and etsy.

As hard as it has been to find hot pink kitchen linens, I found these towels at Walmart. Not only are they pretty, they are super absorbent, so I got several as we use them a lot.

I am so happy to have the Blue Willow out for a change from the aqua I was using. I bought this platter in Japan. The marble came from my grandfather’s store.

A Turkish coffee pot holds frequently-used utensils.

The basket was a Walmart find, but did not have a fabric liner, so I made one. I keep hand towels and paper towels here within easy reach.

I added more Blue Willow to the open shelving as well as vintage McCoy and Pyrex my mother gave me.

I bought the little rice bowls in Japan.

We use the Wedgewood creamware everyday, so it’s nice to have it out, and it’s easy for the kids to grab a plate or bowl.

The plate rack also got a coat of gold paint. I love how bright it is now.

Things are pretty simple on the other side.

I try to keep the breakfast bar cleared off as much as possible because we use it so much, but it’s almost impossible as we all tend to lay things down here as we go by. It’s great, though, to have a large surface to serve food on when we have guests or family sharing a meal.

I ran right out to World Market after seeing everyone with these French Lemonade bottles and got a couple for myself:-)

Cutting boards are within easy reach hanging on the side of the breakfast bar.

I am certainly enjoying my colorful kitchen this summer and love that these small changes, like colorful linens, rugs and dinnerware, have such big impact.

Thanks for stopping by:-)
