Fall inspiration

I do not know how it happens, but every year it sneaks up, and again, here it is right around the corner — Fall. I love everything about it, so no one is happier than I am anticipating the first cool morning and Carolina blue skies.

Y’all know I am all about using natural and organic elements in my decor, and Fall is a perfect time to go outside in grab something natural before heading to the big box store for faux.

Here are some easy, natural and organic ideas to bring a touch of fall to your home.

Placing some miniature pumpkins here and there will immediately make things feel like fall and give a nod to the harvest season.

Of course afresh apple cake made with local apples is a must, and this recipe is the best. Ever.

I love to bring leaves in from outside, and these sour wood branches last forever and could not be more gorgeous — or plentiful here in the NC mountains. Most other fall branches will only last a few hours but these can last for weeks in water depending on the humidity, etc.

Use a tray to add a few touches of fall — pumpkins and Mason jars with fall foliage and candles.

I never buy pre-made bows, but buy fabrics, usually calico cottons, and make my own bows after simply ripping the fabric into long sections.

Simple can make a big statement like these sour wood branches in an antique water pump bucket.

Corn stalks are plentiful at roadside stands, farmers’ markets and even big box stores, and make a big statement when paired with pumpkins, mums and bales of straw.

Don’t forget the ornamental cabbages and kale as a touch of green really makes the fall colors pop.

This large grouping of fall produce lasted several weeks, so don’t think you need to go faux.

Natural elements make the best decor.

Textiles are also great additions to outdoor seasonal spaces.

Faux fur, velvet and kilim pillows add a touch of fall.

Of course, here in the NC mountains, nature is the star, and bringing those colors to your decor through natural elements, fabrics and accessories always works. These napkins came from World Market last year and are a perfect fall accent.

Yes.

Here it’s all about the outside:-)

Hi, Anita. I discovered your blog at Between Naps on the Porch. I moved to NC 20 years ago, in part because of my love of fall in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Your home is beautiful.

It is all so beautiful! Texas is a wonderful state but we don't have majestic fall colors. Your photos are gorgeous.
