Fall Farmhouse Porch

It is my favorite time of year here in the mountains, and nowhere is that more evident than out on the porch where I try to reflect the amazing color that surrounds us.

I like to use things I have, and anything from nature is always a first choice including my ferns, Indian corn, pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks I grew, along with bows made from scraps of fabric.

I never shared the shutter project I did, but they are working shutters I made from bi-fold wood closet doors. I plan to add one more section to each one so they completely cover the doors when closed, but that will be a project for later on.

My mother gave me several packets of flower seeds I threw out in the garden, and I’ve certainly enjoyed these Marigolds, zinnias and poppies all summer. Their beautiful, bold colors are also perfect for this season as well.

Foraged bittersweet dresses up the rustic grapevine wreath I made years ago from vines on the property.

This was definitely the year for gourd growing, and I had a bumper crop from last year’s saved seeds.

The pillow covers came from World Market years ago and slip off easily for washing.

The corn stalks are from the heirloom silver queen my mother grew in her garden.

At night, the porch takes on a beautiful glow with a few lanterns and string lights.

So beautiful! I love all the rich colors….you are so fortunate to live where there is color (I live in San Diego….I have one tree that changes…sort of!) Where did you get the rugs on your porch. Anyway….all so beautiful and inviting.
