Embracing snow with a snowman table!

I’m sharing a very simple table for families with kids of all sizes!  I started with some very inexpensive snowman plates I bought at the Dollar Store for $1 each several years ago.

I used round woven placemats to bring out the red in the plates and Mikasa “Italian Countryside” flatware. Again, I used the Fostoria “Argus” glasses.

I made the paisley napkins from fabric. They wash very well and have the same design on both sides, which is always a prerequisite for napkin fabric. If you have a serger machine you can make this simple kind of napkin even if you cannot sew at all. The machine cuts the fabric, then rolls the edge under as it stitches.

I really wanted to keep the oil lamp from last week because I have enjoyed having it on the table. I changed the runner out for this hand-crocheted doily my late grandmother made for me.

She did very fine work and this is one of my favorites. I’ll share a shamrock pattern runner she made for me on St. Patrick’s Day.

I thought I would show the lamp without all the greenery around it. If you saw it last week, you remember that it is over 100 years old and the aladdin-style with a round wick.

a closeup of the detail on the bottom…

and now lit for the blue hour…

I love how these paisley napkins pick up all the colors on the table and in the plates.

This is a very typical table setting we use for everyday meals. Very simple, but it still makes my family feel appreciated and special.

Take the time to enjoy mealtime together with your family! You will find out more from your kids right here than you will anywhere!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I’ll be joining Susan’s Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch, so be sure to stop by there and say hi.

Anita, I agree with you about dinner time. It is a struggle with busy teenagers, but one worth having, to meet together at dinner time. Very cute snowmen plates and I would embrace the snow if it would come! I love the use of Paisley napkins with the snowmen — I would have never thought of that. Joni

    Darling Tablescape!
When the dollar stores have such cute plates, there's no need to spend more….they are sweeties to share a meal with.

You have such a nice decorating touch!

    God bless,

Anita, what a lovely setting for a cozy family meal! I'm always impressed by people who MAKE their napkins, no matter how easy they claim it is! I know your family loved dining from the cute snowman plates by the light of the oil lamp!

Anita, that is so lovely. I love the sheer simplicity of it! Those snowman plates are too cute! My step mom has them! Your family is very lucky indeed. When Tom and I got married we said that we would always sit down at the table and have dinner, and we do. Every night we sit as a family and just talk about the day. It is one of my most favorite times of the day where we get to hear all that is important to a 5 year old! Are you staying warm????

I have always loved your header, too. It's such
    "warm" colors. Very pretty.

Still loving that lamp. I'm glad you gave the close up of it. It's really a treasure. So is the doily from your grandmother. I love the two together, in particular.

If I had a serger, I would want to make napkins all the time. It's so nice to be able to pick the perfect fabric.

LOVE that blue hour shot the best!

    Hi Anita!
I'm smiling up here in upstate, NY … yes… there's still snow here too…and I love the idea of "embracing" it…
I always look upon it's whiteness as my "winter sunshine" bright, white and so much better than frozen brown grass!

Your dishes are adorable and I do love the crocheted doily. Vintage things are so amazing.
    Blessings to you always*

It is so nice that you try to make the table look special for the special times you spend there as a family and I like that you keep it "real". That crocheted doily is gorgeous and a lovely keepsake. The touches of greenery with the lamp and the snowman plates, all make for a very cozy and inviting place to dine!

So pretty Anita! I really like those cute snowmen plates. They are wonderful. I love that you made those napkins, I like doing that too. I've never made the serged edge though. That is something to think about. Beautiful fabric!

What a warm, wonderful look! Makes you just want to cozy up to it all!!! We'll have plenty of snow for making snowmen here over the next few days. Forecast is 8-14 inches over the next 48 hours!!! 🙁 I made sure I have plenty of groceries and other supplies, and goodness knows I have enough to keep me busy around here. Just hoping it all clears up in time for my luncheon on Wednesday! Have a great Monday!
