Summer Cottage Kitchen

Hi everyone! I’m back with my summer kitchen inspired by the set of The Waltons, and also inspired by another TV show I love, I Love Lucy!

I’ve added a lot of little details from the set of The Waltons over the last couple years from glass-front cabinetry, to the little shelf over the counter and grandma Walton’s Metlox Poppy Trail Rooster salt cellar. Since this wall is now vintage bead board, I restored from the old house, and not the blue color it was before, I like to add fabric for curtains and the sink skirt with a blue background. I bought this Waverly “Cosima” a couple years ago and love how it combines the blues and greens for summer.

I decided to bring out the Franciscan “Ivy” dinnerware and love how it works with the fabric – especially for summer.

I also used a vintage cake carrier my late Aunt Jody gave me as well as Lucy Ricardo’s Mirro-Matic percolator. Vintage art from a late relative also brings the blues and green together.

I had a small collection of Ivy dishes, then a friend from high school gave me her mother’s entire set after she passed away, so this is a really special set of dishes to me! (Thank you so much, Pam❤️)

I keep herbs drying on the little rack I bought at an antique store a few years back, and a 1958 Currier and Ives calendar also works for 2025.

The little towel rack is similar to the one on The Waltons and was less that $2 a few years ago.

I also decided to reframe the range hood. We originally had a microwave there, but after it caught on fire, we removed it and put in an inexpensive range hood that Luis trimmed out. I only reframed it because I wanted to have a shelf on top to add accessories to😁 I love how it turned out, and because we rarely use anything in those top cabinets, it works to have a pretty tray there.

I made the towels a few years ago – one from granddaddy’s feedsacks, and the others from fabric I had. I like to have something seasonal hanging here over the big, black hole the oven makes in the room.

I also poured the candle from soy wax into an old quart jar from the cellar here.

This is a favorite tray, that I found next door in the basement, I think,

I had two sets of cream and sugar bowls, so I gave one to my late aunt Jody a few years back as she loved this china as much as I do🙂

I have a mixture of Ivy from 1948 on up to the ones made in England from 2000-2003.

i brought back my green check runner and added a tray with a vintage blue sugar bowl my cousin’s wife gave me as well as hydrangeas from the yard. I thought my blue hydrangea was destroyed in the Hurricane Helene flood last fall, but it popped up this spring and has been the most beautiful it’s ever been.

The candle holder was over at my parents’ house.

So that is how my kitchen has been styled all summer, and I’m ready to change out the fabrics and dinnerware for fall🤣 It’s just been so hot that I am ready for cool weather, which I hope we even get this year here. My garden is just starting to come in, though, so there’s lots of canning and preserving happening the next couple months as well.

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to watch the video on my channel. Be sure you are subscribed because you know fall and Christmas are my favorite seasons to decorate and cozy up the house!

So lovely! I remember some ivy dishes and ivy wallpaper at my aunts house when I was a little girl, what fun to see your beautiful display. Your home looks nice and cool for the summer. Your pretty tray above the stove is an eye catcher…such a good idea adding a shelf! So happy to hear your hydrangea plant made it! Excited to see your harvest for this year…you and your family are such hard wokers! Enjoyed your post Anita, thank you for sharing with us…

Lovely decor. Your room reminds me of my Grandmother’s house (prob. built in 20-30’s). They didn’t live in the country but her home decor was country. Though she didn’t set out to decorate her home at all, it all came together. Doubtful she would have had extra money to spend on decor. She used what she had, pieces she had collected over her lifetime, I would imagine. A comfy welcoming place where her family, all her children and their children gathered every Sunday for chicken and dressing.

      Thank you.

I mentioned some of that at the beginning of the post.
I have a similar layout, with the table in the middle, sink and window behind, door to the left; the blue color on the walls, (although I have wood on the sink wall, and that one wall is not painted); the glass in the cabinets, wood countertops, cabinets painted antique white; the little white shelf near the sink under the cabinet; the sink skirt and cafe curtains, the green check runner (I don’t use a tablecloth like they used because I prefer a runner but use the same fabric), bench at the table; the Metlox Poppytrail Rooster Salt cellar is directly from the actual set, and I have a similar bread box.

I always love to see your posts on your instagram account – I had to peek over here and see what I was missing! I’m in love with the candlestick/planter set on your buffet. Swoon. I love to see your pictures because you nest the same way I do – strategic layers of nostalgia and what makes you feel peaceful and surrounded by those you love and loved. And you love a good hunt for that perfect item which is something that tickles my fancy as well. Thanks for always sharing!
