Hi everyone! Here we are in the middle of my favorite season, and I’m just now getting around to sharing the kitchen:-) I made some changes over the summer, but with gardening and canning it was hard to find time to set the camera up and share, so I’ll show some of those here before getting into the fall decor.
I’ve mentioned on instagram that I am obsessed with the kitchen on The Waltons. I love the set design and the true farmhouse feel the set designer created. I’ve had the blue walls and wood counters for a while, but I was also inspired by the glass front cabinet thinking that was something I could do.
I especially love this little shelf and also wanted to make something similar for the spices I use most.
Over the summer, I painted the rest of the cabinetry “Antique White” by Glidden, and I love how this paint performed, plus it was very affordable. I planned to possibly create a false drawer front on the left side of the upper cabinet, but ended up using the two glass doors I already had in my storage. I painted the inside Valspar “fog blue” like the wall to the left, and added the little shelf.
I bought the Waverly “Cosima” fabric from fabricguru.com and made the sink skirt, valance and cafe curtains. I wanted a floral with the blue background since I have the wood walls on this side of the room.
I really planned to use this combo for fall, but because I love the “Brown Drip” dinnerware so much – especially this time of year, I felt I needed to use fabric with more brown for the sink skirt and curtains, so I bought a couple remnants at fabricguru, and they ended up being perfect.
With all the background behind us, I’ll show you how the fall kitchen turned out.
I used Kaufmann “Dahana” for a runner layered over Thibaut “Istanbul” in rust. I gathered hydrangeas for a centerpiece, which I placed on a tray my daddy made in high school.
I used Thibaut “Ballantyne” for the sink skirt and cafe curtains and just love how these fall colors in the fabric tie in the blues with the browns and oranges.
I love the glass doors with the blue inside, but I didn’t realize how hard it would be to film/photograph glass so I might end up creating the drawer front situation on the left side as on the set of The Waltons.
I also found a three arm towel rack, like on the set, on eBay for $1.99.
I traded out the white dinnerware for all the browns, carnival and amber glass.
The little shelf is great for everyday spices, etc., and I actually had a vintage spice rack sitting on the counter, but it looked so cluttered in the photos, I took it out. Most of the spices are in another cabinet on the other side of the stove.
Over the summer, just as I was ready to start canning tomatoes, our stove decided to quit, so I had to go in search of an affordable option. I ended up with this Samsung, which was majorly on sale at Lowes, and I’m really happy with it so far. Y’all know I didn’t want stainless, but because the fridge is stainless (the only option we had after two weeks with no fridge almost three years ago when nothing was in stock), I felt like this was the best option instead of plain black. Yes, I’d love the Elmira Stoveworks, Big Chill or even the Café line of appliances, but they’re not remotely in my budget, and I had to keep cost as low as possible. I did want a glass top because I use this as serving space when necessary, and the glass top makes it easy. We also went ahead and replaced the dishwasher, which was requiring two cycles and had been the cheapest model on the floor when we got it, while this end of summer sale was going.
I had a couple of towels hanging on the stove but I was not happy with how they looked so I grabbed this scarf, and loved the color accent it added. I ended up cutting it in half, and it worked well. It’s always good to think outside the box – especially for decor because you never know what might look great until you try it.
I put my grandmother’s little wood plates back up on the wall because I wanted to bring in the brown for fall.
For the open shelves, I brought out all the brown drip, carnival glass and vintage kitchen items I had with the warm fall colors. I’ve also had a couple different wildflower/branches arrangements here as you can see in the photos:-)
This antique chair had been stored, and I was so happy to get it back because it’s the perfect comfy chair for the kitchen:-)
On the buffet, I wanted to recreate a look from about 10 years ago here on the blog and arranged the hydrangeas in the old antique ammo box.
All the fall colors are super late here, so this is one of a few orange maples I could find along with some sourwood, which always turns early. I love the colors with the dark burgundy curtains and the blue walls – just like nature.
These are the same hydrangeas from summer in the antique Cherokee rivercane basket that I just placed on the organ.
I love the colors in this rug and always use it this time of year.
I love this time of year, and I love trying to make the inside of my home reflect the beauty and color outside and feel cozy inside. Aside from having the appliance purchases, which for us is a major thing that will hopefully not happen again for *many* years, the fabric and a $17 gallon of paint, I didn’t make any seasonal purchases – as usual but just moved some things around, foraged outside, and rotated some other things. Again, just trying to use what I have and make it as pretty as I can through my own hard work and creativity – something we can all do:-)

Each time I see your blog I wonder how you can top what you just accomplished and you do it every time!! I LOVE your kitchen. So cozy. Your entire house is so cozy and of all the blogs I look at your house and style is my favorite. The colors, just amazing! Now the scarf on the oven door, perfection! The summer fabric you used was also very pretty and fresh. I see why you like the Walton’s kitchen. Your kitchen is a polished version of that one! I bought several of those on eBay years ago when I figured out that calendar years repeat and I could use vintage calendars:-)

As usual, your house is lovely. I too am smitten by fall and have been all my life.Your really have a gift for putting things together and also just using what you have. Having followed your blog for a long time I always notice the changes you make.. The Indian picture over your buffet for instance. I can’t wait to see where you will put it when your redoing. Lovely as always. The new fabric is beautiful and I love how you have created a pretty and functional space in a small area with the use of the table. Your creativity continues to inspire me to make the most of what I have. I prefer the cozy cottage rooms over large open floor plans. (Not knocking them, just stating preference). You beautifully show us how it’s done!
