I’ve been playing around with the living room decor since I took down Christmas. I always like to simplify things, for about a minute, then I’m back to color and pattern. I found some vintage Ralph Lauren sheets on eBay in the Allison pattern, and I thought they’d make great curtains. I definitely didn’t want anything lined, because I like as much light as possible, so sheets were perfect. I thought the background was too white, though, so I tea-dyed the fabric in the washing machine, and that worked great. I also put down a cream overdyed rug I got from Unique Rugstore about 10 years ago, but it was about a foot too small so I ended up putting it back in my girls’ bedroom.
I changed out the pillow covers for some I made, and I bought a couple green velvet pillow covers from amazon because I have searched for years for green velvet fabric in the shade I want, but can never find it. These are a mossy green, so they will work for now. I think they were two for $13.99 and free shipping.
I sprinkled around some dried hydrangeas I’d saved from fall.
I decided to arrange these antique plates I had that belonged to my grandmother because I loved how the colors all worked in the color palette I was going for.
When I saw this antique channel-back chair on marketplace for $40, I couldn’t pass it up. It’s beautifully clean and the kind of piece I’ll have forever. I made the floral pillow covers years ago from a remnant of Waverly Montague I found at a local cloth shop, which sadly has been closed for a few years now.
This antique Cherokee river cane basked made by Eva Wolfe, has been in the family for years, and my youngest daughter gave me the smaller one for Christmas this year. These are definitely treasures in my Native art collection.
I’m really enjoying the mossy green and pink in this room and love how the hydrangeas have those colors.
Mother bought the candle holder in Lebanon, and I’ve added a Navajo vase, Mexican pottery and a collection of books.
I was so excited last year to get this chair out of storage at a friend’s house. It was inherited from a relative and is super comfy.
On grandmother’s trunk, I added a vintage lamp and some of my grandfather’s books. I’m thinking I should paint the trunk back to the olive green it was originally. I painted the blue about 10 years ago and loved it then, but think the green might be better.
On the mantel, I added a print that belonged to my grandmother found in my parents’ attic. I just loved the colors for this season.
I draped an old scarf over the mantel, again to add the green.
I am really loving how the florals, greens and pinks are making this room feel – especially for the coming season. I enjoy trying different things and moving things around. It’s just something creative I like to do, and I’m always trying to make my home feel cozy, inviting and lived-in mostly by using things I have or can make, and occasionally finding a good deal on something thrifted or new to add.

Your room oozes spring just as your glorious woods soon will. The florals are so lovely and peaceful. Yes I agree, I think it’s time to paint the antique trunk a soft moss gree n. Just like the woodlands. The scarf on the mantle is inspiring i have an antique one too complete with fringe that i will get out and embellish my mantle with.
So sorry you have been so sick. We have too. Seems like forever and I can’t ditch the constant cough. Seems like it doesn t matter what time of year anymore, the viruses are lurking everywhere.
