Autumn Living Room and a Special Gift

Hello everyone! I’m so excited about this season, even if it’s still unseasonally sweltering here in the mountains, the cooler weather is coming – hopefully🙏

I love getting the house ready for fall, and this year I had some ideas based on my 1970’s childhood🙂 The warm colors, woods, brass, and all the things that made that era just feel happy, are what I wanted to incorporate.

The candelabra mother bought in Lebanon in 1974 is a favorite, and something I use a lot. I found the twist taper candles at Walmart for .97, and the remind me of the swirl/twist candles from the 70s.

Velvet pillows I’ve had for years in warm colors, and a new plaid set of pillow covers I bought on amazon (because I couldn’t find fabric), are perfect on the leather Chesterfield that I am still loving from Valencia Theater Seating a few years ago.

My sweet husband surprised me with the very thoughtful and heirloom quality gift of a Pendleton blanket for my birthday, so I chose the Ponderosa pattern and love how the earthy colors just fit in this room.

I shared a video last week of a kind of “fall haul” my style, which included these inexpensive vintage wall plaques I found on ebay. I love them hanging on the windows form the old house.

I filled my antique Cherokee river cane egg basket with hydrangeas from my garden. I added some pillow covers I made a few years back because I thought this floral was perfect for fall.

I love to use vintage cordial glasses for votives, and this amber color just glows this time of year.

I was looking for mother’s chevron afghan for a awhile but have not found it, and this granny square one popped up on sbay for $15. Love the vintage 70’s style😊

On my grandmother’s trunk. I placed some vintage Beacon blankets, a plate I bought in Bolivia and,. of course, candles – one in a depression glass candy dish.

Over great grandmother’s chaise, I hung a rattan light from 70s that was in our house growing up. I’ve had this for years, and really wanted to use it this year.

The watercolor was also in our old house – a lady my daddy did some work for, built an addition on our house after she sold her vacation home here. In summers, she would fly daddy down to Tampa, and he would drive her back here in her car so she could enjoy the cool mountain air all summer. I have several of the afghans she made, paintings, and the rattan lamp was over her dining table. We have such wonderful memories of her, so when I mention, Laura, that’s who I”m talking about.

I made over these 70’s Homco candle sconces I bought years ago. Some of you might remember I had painted and distressed them with whites and grays. I found four amber votives that just fit in the holes and would have originally been included with these when new.

A few leaves from outside won’t compete with the beautiful painting.

One of the afghans Laura made is on the leather chair, and is one I treasure.

I love how this room turned out! It just feels so warm and cpzy just like our home in the 1970s. I don’t know what it is, but I sure find myself remembering and cherishing the wonderful memories of my past – especially home and family. And those are the things that certainly make a house a home😊
