Hi everyone! I’m excited to share my kitchen all ready for Christmas! I decided to use my mother’s Franciscan Apple as the inspiration for this year, and really added mostly red and brown to bring out the rustic feel I wanted.

I brought out this antique tray from China, I believe, passed down from a relative and added my grandmother’s angel and some candle holders from the 90s.

My grandmother’s little Hallmark Santa and Mrs. Claus come out every Christmas to keep watch over my cooking 😊

I could not find a towel here I liked hanging on the stove, so I used this scarf specifically for the colors.

Over the window, I hung a couple strands of oranges I dried, little ticking stripe stockings I made and some vintage Christmas cards. Red bows finish off the white lace curtains.

Funny how 1990s Christmas is trending, and I always love these mosaic candle holders I still have from the 90s.

I really wanted the combo of rustic brown drip with the apple pattern, and I added some of my Christmas tealight candle holders I’ve had since the 90s as well.

Granddaddy framed the print in the 1930s, and the lantern also belonged to him.

This is everyone’s favorite spot in the kitchen. I wish I had room for more chairs here, because this is where everyone loves to hang out. If I didn’t have a grand piano in here that would be possible😂

I reuse these old calendars with the corresponding current year and just love the Currier and Ives prints.

I love to bring out my grandmother’s vintage candy cane and angels every year. I remember when she used them at Christmas – always on the window sill in her dining room.

Chicken feed and cat food look a lot better in this antique churn and old crock than they did in the Tractor Supply plastic buckets😂

Granddaddy cut down this old ammo box many years ago, and I thought it was just perfect for the beautiful apples and butternut squash ready to be cooked.

I have grown to love this exact same look every year here on the buffet. A window from the old house and very special Christmas cards from my grandparents as well as two vintage cards I found on eBay years ago.

My daddy made the yule log, and it’s the same one in the photo below😊

The oil lamp belonged to Great granddaddy Porter who originally bought this property in the 1920s as his summer home.

I made a rustic arrangement of greenery, antler sheds and pinecones for this Cherokee river cane basket my daughter bought for me a few years back at Qualla Arts and Crafts.

This tree by the antique pump organ holds all the beautiful handmade ornaments my mother bought me as well as glass ornaments I bought in Germany and Italy, many my kids made, Shiny Brites from my grandmother, great grandmother’s glass beads and Jewel Brite angels from my childhood.

I made a lovely fresh arrangment for the piano, and a swag for the china cabinet my husband built for me many years ago. I brought the iron candelabra back from Turkey one year, and a matching one the next year🙂

One of my best friends from high school gave me the Messiah score as we graduated high school and entered college – both majoring in music🙂

Since the 90s were trending, I thought I’d bring out more mosaic glass hurricanes from the 90s😊😄

Last summer, I stumbled on my late Aunt Jody’s recipe for apple stack cake, and I really wanted to try that this year. It’s such an iconic Appalachian tradition, and one we’re certainly enjoying! I’d made a different recipe a couple years ago, but I’m so happy I have hers now.
if you have never made one or don’t have a family recipe to try, I recommend this one: Apple Stack Cake

So that’s my kitchen all decorated for Christmas! I enjoy moving things around, using the same things in different ways, and all the other things that make my home feel cozy and warm. I love when my husband comes in from a long day at work and says how nice the house looks and feels, and that means a lot to me, because it’s something I love doing. I absolutely love this quote from Edith Schaeffer:
“If you have been afraid that your love of beautiful flowers and the flickering flame of the candle is somehow less spiritual than living in starkness and ugliness, remember that He who created you to be creative gave you the things with which to make beauty and the sensitivity to appreciate and respond to His creation.”

Thank you, Karen, Merry Christmas to you!
So beautiful and cozy. I wish I had room to add furniture to my kitchen but it is very small. I love how you keep your family heirlooms and display them from year to year. Such precious memories. ❤️

Your kitchen looks so warm and inviting. Your apple mugs and other dishes brought back memories of my mom’s dishes, we had the exact same ones. Love the yule log, we do not have anything from our childhood Christmas’

Love all the family heirlooms…seems to be trending for now, but for me that never went out of style. (especially living in a 135 year old home!) Beautiful details, and lighting is perfection!
Blessings for a happy holiday season,
