Cozy Autumn Cottage Kitchen

Hi everyone! I’m sharing some fall decorating in the kitchen today! Y’all know how I love the vintage Blue Ridge/Southern Potteries patterns, and I have had my eye on “County Fair” for a while. Other than a few of those pieces, I just used things I already had and moved some others around for a fresh look this season.

I love the little makeover I did on the stove hood earlier this year. I like being able to have my tray there and leave the space behind the stove for iron skillets and a stove trivet from the old house. **There’s a pot of tomato cabbage soup simmering on the stove – all from the gardenšŸ™‚

This is just a piece cut from a scarf I have hanging on the oven door.

I always change out my everyday dinnerware, and for Fall it’s vintage Hull/McCoy Brown Drip. I have loved this for many years and started collecting it more than 20 years ago. I also bring out the amber Indiana Glass “Whitehall” and any peach luster I have as well.

I made the sink skirt and cafe curtains last year out of Thibaut “Farview” fabric. I love this fabric so much, and it’s perfect for fall in my kitchen to tie in the blues with the browns and oranges.

I used the same rust plaid runner from last year and added an arrangement of wildflowers, hydrangeas and sourwood in a brass Turkish coffee pot. Daddy made the tray in highschool.

The star of this show is the Blue Ridge/Southern Potteries “County Fair” pattern. I’ve loved these forever and found some salad plates and cups and saucers on eBay last winter. They mix so nicely with the “Brown Drip” and Fire King “Peach Lustre” as well as the old green jars I found at Mother’s house.

The platter is “Delicious” also by Blue Ridge, and because these patterns are not written on the back, it took a while to find out what it’s called. I found two bread plates at my local antique mall and searched until i found this one on eBay. What I love about it is the orange leaf, which really makes it feel like Fall.

The 1958 calendar works for 2025. I have several of these Travelers “Currier and Ives” calendars that I reuse when the coordinating year comes along.

I did the same thing I do mostly every fall on the buffet – granddaddy and great grandmother’s old books lined up with vintage carnival glass and some old family photos. I especially like the tin-type photos this time of yehar.

Over on the other side of the room, I brought back the curtains I made last year out of the vintage Waverly fabric mother gave me. It’s so perfect for fall! I found the watercolor in her attic and thought it needed to see the light of day. It was in our house growing up and belonged to a long-time late family friend whose art I have around the house. She also made the afghan, and the print of “Tavern rules” also belonged to her.

I know it’s odd to have a grand piano in what is technically the dining area, but when you’re a musician, you do what you need to in a small house, and I can always entertain guests after dinner🤣 If we entertainedšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

That’s my fall kitchen! I sure love this time of year and love how the light starts to pour into the windows on this side of the house giving everything such a beautiful, warm golden glow. When the leaves change (they’re late this year) it’s like living in a fall “snow” globe. I have to soak up every moment of it before it’s over😊

There’s a video up on my channel so be sure to check that out as well!!

JUST BEAUTIFUL!! I love how you keep everything so “real” and so cozy. Reminds me of my days as a little girl. There’s no place as sweet as one’s home!

Anita, your home is the perfect example of being comfy and warm and inviting. Love your colors and decorating style. Love your Indian painting and the books you’ve collected with such beautiful bindings. Always makes my day to be able to gaze at your lovely home in the woods. Thank you also for the great recipes you share with us so often. Looking forward to fall here also and hope we can pull together as cozy a home as you always create.

Oh how I love the stories each item in your kitchen tells…sentimental decor at its finest! All the details you share and the stories are what truly make a house a home, passed down from generation with a memory attached. Can’t buy that at Target! You are such a style setter and I love it. Drooling and hoping to find a clock radio like the one in your kitchen…not a digital one! I sure enjoyed seeing all your details. Sending hugs! Alda

Aww thank you so much my friend😊😊 We found that at a local antique mall years ago, and my husband went back to get it for me😊 I do use it as well – it works probably better than any new ones!!

So warm and cozy, Anita…I love how you work with color for every season and holiday. It was so sweet to see your pitcher, the Hull/McCoy Brown Drip. My grandmother gave me a pitcher, creamer and sugar bowl that look similar for my hope chest when I was a younger girl over 65 years ago, but I never knew it’s name…thank you! I don’t think they use hope chests much these days, but I treasure mine as it was from the same grandmother and a dear aunt when I graduated high school!

So perfect that you really do use your beautiful kitchen and are making homemade soup with veggies from your garden. How fun it would be to mozy from your table to your beautiful piano and listen to you play…especially on a rainy day like we are having here today! We’ve had a colorful autumn and there’s a chill in the air. Thanks for your delightful post!

I love that you don’t decorate with store-bought suites of matching furniture. Everything is unique and can stand on its own, but you have an exceptional eye for putting all of these diverse items together and creating a beautiful, cozy and one of a kind home. It’s not only lovely, it’s livable, warm & inviting.

Hi, Anita! There is something so endearing about being surrounded by things that have been passed down for generations. I love sentiment! I can just imagine the feeling of love and warmth that you’re home evokes for you and your family. My husband bought me a country blue KitchenAid mixer, and I’ve wondered how I would make that work with fall colors. You have definitely inspired me! Such a beautiful pallet and who would have thought orange and blue go so beautifully together. I’m sitting on the front porch getting ready to go watch your YouTube video, I happened to look up at the blue sky and noticed my dogwood turning orange. I’ve never noticed how beautiful those colors flow together. Everything is so lovely as always! Happy autumn, sweet friend🧔

Oh wow what a wonderful gift!! Yes, that’s it my friend!! Blue is the color of the “Carolina blue sky” we have in autumn, and I realized what a great background that is for the warm colors😊 Thank you so much my sweet friend!!

Is that too light candle on the piano a piece of carnival glass? It looks like the only piece of carnival glass I have from my grandmother, which is a small oval. I’m guessing originally candy dish. If so, how did you turn it into a candle? I just by chance washed it today and put it back away because I didn’t know what to do with it.

I just found your blog, and I hope you forgive me, but I’m going to have questions 😁. I’m in the middle of re-organizing/downsizing my several sets of dishes and glassware, but was wondering if you have any tips on how you pack them away for storage in the off-season? I’m glad I’m not the only one that likes to put out different dishes seasonally. I have found my people!

I’m so happy you are here Maria!! I have a friend who makes candles in carnival glass, etc., and had bought several from her, then I bought some wicks and soy wax to use some of the containers I have and made that one myselfšŸ™‚
I have several china cabinets, and a lot of kitchen cabinets, and I just store the ones I’m not using in the places that are hard to reach, like in the very back, cabinet above the fridge, etc., then switch them out seasonally😊

I just got some padded china storage and I think you’ve given me the idea of what to put in those kitchen blind corner cabinets! Thank you! (Besides stashing some under beds…my metal platters all live under the couch.)

And I’m super happy to be here, thank you! My neighbor gave me her set of friendly village and i found you via a tg post you did with them. Were those silver chargers? I couldn’t find any info on them. Gorgeous!!
